Why We Don't Do Drop-Ins (Anymore)

When we first opened in January 2018, we welcomed drop-ins as a way to meet new people and introduce them to our gym. Hell, we even did full free trial weeks!

But over the years, we've learned that this model no longer fits who we are.

At Freedom Fitness, we’re a coaching facility. Our focus is on giving dedicated attention to our recurring monthly members.

Random drop-ins take away time and effort our coaches could spend on those committed to progressing. Drop-ins also always need more coaching than regulars, which isn't fair to our members.

Not to mention our programming, which is built on progression. This goes for our Small Group Coaching, Beginner’s Course, Postnatal Fitness, and all of our Youth Gyms. They are all meticulously planned and mapped out for you. I’m not joking when I say our programming is like a fine art.

To truly benefit from our programming, you need consistency. Consistency is literally like magic when it comes to making progress. Randomly dropping in doesn’t allow you to follow the program, and more importantly, it impacts your progress.

Our members pay for coaching, and also accountability. If there’s no accountability, showing up becomes less of a priority.

“I’ll watch one more episode of Suits and go later,” or “I fancy a lie-in, I’ll go tomorrow morning.”

You never went to the gym again.

Drop-ins simply won’t come in often enough to build a habit out of it. As a result, they won’t get results or make any progress, and then they’ll leave and tell everyone how crap the gym is because it didn’t “work.”

It’s like selling a bucket with holes in it.

Lastly, and selfishly, from a business perspective. We're (I'm) a small, independently-owned gym with staff to support. It’s simply not sustainable to employ coaches when we can't predict revenue because of drop-ins. By focusing on our recurring members, we can ensure both your experience and our business are stronger, and will still be here in 5 years’ time.

So there you have it - our primary responsibility is to our beloved members. If you think that’s unfair, you know what to do: become a beloved member!

See you in the gym,

Karen and Co.
